Accident Report
Recently one of our residents had a serious car accident at the entrance to our community. This happened just a few days  prior to Christmas Day. (She's recovering at home).

Some of our residents have been calling the county, even before this occurred about the narrowness of the opening to our community.  Jim Hamann in particular has actually gotten them to come and re-measure and to concede verbally that the width is not correct. Also, some of our board members work for the county and so we may be seeing some relief on this issue in the near future! We'll keep you posted.

Note to Reader:
If this newsletter looks a bit strange to you, it's probably because it has been printed from our ppho.org website. That is why you see the links on the left and right columns that may not make much sense to you as you read this on paper. However, for a while we will continue to use this format to remind you of all the other features and interactivity you can get by reading this online at our community website. Just a reminder to visit it and use it. After all it's for you!

Hello and glad you stopped by.

Have a Peaceful, Happy and Prosperous 2002!

We'd like to wish all of our residents, families and friends a wonderful New Year in 2002. Don't forget to check out the PPHO.org website. It is updated every other month, as well as whenever there is pertinent info. We now have over 26 residents on the PPHO email list. Please don't forget to add yours to the list, if you have not done so. Call 561-0325 if you would like for it to be added right away or send your email address, name and lot # to webmaster@ppho.org. Don't worry if you don't have email...you won't be left out of any formal or required communications, which will continue to be delivered via US Mail. However, we are able to easily and handily communicate with almost half our residents via email and this opens the door to much timelier, more frequent and less costly communications for our community.

Re-Zoning of portion of Crystal Drive & Plantation Road
January 10, 2001 9 AM - Meeting
Lee County Development Review (479-8900)
1500 Monroe St.
Room #218 (Hearing Examiner)
One block east of 41/McGregor interchange. Plenty of parking.

Please try to attend this meeting in order to ensure that the area of Plantation & Crystal (directly across the street from The Rookery) is re-zoned with stipulations that will help us to retain our property values and quality of living. Kathy Morgan, a PP resident has been a great help in dealing with the county on this issue and has been involved in voicing objections over certain types of businesses, landscapes, easements, fencing and other matters of concern with some success. Please see the separate attachment on this issue. As many of us as possible need to be seen and heard at this meeting to protect ALL of our property values.

Record Attendance!
We had a record attendance - 37 lots were represented! (Last year there were 26 - year before less than 20) So, we're really thrilled about the boost in attendance!

New Board Members
As most of you know, Tim Malszycki, who has served on our board for 3 years now, will no longer be on the board as of the end of 2001. Therefore, we really needed at least 1 additional board member to volunteer. Well, not only did we get 1 -- we got 2! For the first time in many years there will be 4 board members! The newly nominated and approved board members are Mike Tisch and Desi Fidler. Mike Tisch has just recently moved into the neighborhood and Desi Fidler is a long time resident of 14 years. Thank you to Mike and Desi for volunteering to serve on our board!

Front Entrance Beautification
Hopefully, by now you will have noticed that our front landscape has been repaired and is looking much better! (Aside from the cable laying equipment). Plants that had been killed by the previous drought were replaced with the same and additional plantings were used to fill in blank spots to give better uniformity to the existing landscape design. Kevin Kichinka spearheaded the team of resident volunteers who "touched up" the front entrance landscape, along with the help of Rod Bledsoe and Kathy Morgan. Also, Tim Malszycki met with the irrigation company and had those repairs performed. By doing this work ourselves, the homeowners association saved well over $1,000 or more. A BIG THANK YOU to Kevin, Kathy and Rod!

Kudos to Residents
We'd also like to thank Martha Kebhart for decorating our front entrance for the holidays so beautifully, as she does every year and Lorraine Beckmann for placing the US flags at the entrance to help our community show its support for the USA against the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

A parting word of thanks to Tim Malszycki - for his work and dedication to our community and to his position as president of the PPHOA! Tim you're awesome!

Please don't ever hesitate to contact us with any of your suggestions, comments and questions. Your feedback is welcomed and encouraged. Just click on the suggestion box and tell us your thoughts! We'd love to hear from you. Let's build our community together!     webmaster@ppho.org

A Courier & Ives Moment...

The entries in this year's Third Annual Holiday Bake-Off  were quite spectacular.  Just know this: Your neighbors can cook!
First prize winner, was Susan Wellborn, with her American Beauties - an upscale take on the chocolate chip cookie, each resting on its own lace doily; Second prize went to the Two Kelsey's (Dunham & Achberger) Magic Cookie Bars - a dreamy chocolate, coconut, Hershey kiss creation; and Third prize went to Taylor Rothenberg for her deliciously, unexpectedly chocolaty, snack mix - Puppy Chow.

There were many, many others that all deserved prizes! Lauren Cornell's Orange Hershey Kiss cookies were a sleeper - until you bit the middle - that woman can bake! In fact we had such great participation that next year we will be adding a junior division to the Bake-Off.

Santa and Mrs. Claus visited for a couple of hours, there was ornament making, a story reading of "The Night Before Christmas" by Sir Rodney Belsdoe (sic) and a magical, wonderful horse drawn carriage ride that really helped us all get into the Christmas spirit. Elvis (the beautiful, black percheron) wore antlers and sparkling glitter in his mane and the red velvet lined carriage comfortably seated 7. Riding that carriage in the slightly chilled air, under the stars and around the loop, made you feel just like you had stepped back in time into a Courier & Ives painting.

Although many families attended and had a great time, we'd like to have more of you join us next year! It's a great way to get some Holiday Cheer, as well as to meet your neighbors!
