If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
--John Stuart Mill

Every area of trouble gives out a ray of hope; and the one unchangeable certainty is that nothing is certain or unchangeable.
--John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Four freedoms: The first is freedom of speech and expression - everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of everyone to worship God in his own way, everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want . . . everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear . . . anywhere in the world.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt U.S. President

Fight and you may die. Run and you'll live, at least a while. And, dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance -- just one chance -- to come back here and tell our enemies, that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!
--William Wallace

Snake Watch
It has been brought to our attention that some residents have seen a significant increase in the snake population in our neighborhood, including poisonous snakes, especially in and around our lake area. In particular Water Mocassins have been identified and killed in that area. Please be very cautious as you do your spring gardening and lawn maintenance and when near the torpedo grasses in the lake vacinity.

2002 Holiday Bake-Off - Sweet Success and Good Cheer!
The 4th Annual Holiday Bake-Off was a sweet success!
Each year the competition has become a little stiffer....we have some extraordinary cooks in our community. Owner of "My Secret Chef" a Naples based catering company, professional chef, Rick Shackelton was our Bake-off judge. We'd like to thank him for his kind participation in our event. (It's a rough job, but somebody's got to eat all those goodies).

First prize went to Jim Chouinard (Bledsoe's brother-in-law) for his "Frost Bites" (the word d-i-v-i-n-e comes to mind), 2nd prize to Marina McCarthy for her Carmel Goodies and 3rd Prize went to Kelsey and Beth Achberger for their adorable "Reindeer Cookies".

Mr. & Mrs. Claus arrived via horse-drawn carriage just in the nick of time, and then we all got to take a lazy carriage ride into the crisp night air around the loop a time or two. The kids made gum drop Christmas trees and beaded pipe cleaner ornaments and let us not forget the reading of the Night Before Christmas by Sir Rodney Beldslow. Our attendance was at an all time high (about 70 or so). Next year, make your plans early to attend...every has a great time and are anxiously looking forward to next year! Don't worry if you're not a cook, entry into the Bake-off is not required to attend.

Plantation Road Extension/Widening Update
On November 22, 2002, the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) made their FINAL VOTE on the Extension/Widening of Plantation Road by 2007. Here is a link to the MPO Amendment to the 2020 and 2010 Plan. For information on Lee County MPO related meetings, please contact either Mr. Glen Ahlert at (239) 656-7720 ext. #224 or e-mail gahlert@swfrpc.org or Ms. Debbie Kooi at (239) 656-7720 ext. #210 dkooi@swfrpc.org

New Signage
We are entertaining bids for new signage for our entrance walls. According to the online polls and conversations with residents, it would appear that many people feel that updating our signage would be a vast improvement, which would serve to beautify our grounds and polish our image as a community, thereby fostering and potentially improving property values. We will further discuss this at the annual meeting in the fall. Stay posted....and email or call to let us know what you think.

Your Virtual Community Online
We'd like to continue to remind you to frequently check out the PPHO.org website. Its your community center online. It is updated every other month, as well as whenever there is pertinent info. We now have over 30 residents on the PPHO email list. Please don't forget to add yours to the list, if you have not done so. Call 561-0325 if you would like for it to be added right away or send your email address, name and lot # to webmaster@ppho.org. Don't worry if you don't have email...you won't be left out of any formal or required communications, which will continue to be delivered via US Mail. However, we are able to easily and handily communicate with almost half our residents via email and this opens the door to much timelier, more frequent and less costly communications for our community.
