Email Please!
We have a great deal going on within our surrounding community at this time, so being able to communicate with our residents via email is almost critical now. It is very difficult as volunteers to find the time and resources to communicate effectively via US Mail, by hand, phone or in person. If you want to stay better informed about issues that are taking place in our community, such as the Crystal IPD Project and the Plantation/Palmetto Extension, it is vital that you provide us with your correct email address. Many times there is little or no notice from the government entities of happenings and meetings, making it impossible to notify our residents of pertinent news in a timely fashion. Of course, if you simply do not have email, then we will mail out the documents that are required.

Note to Reader:
If this newsletter looks a bit strange to you, it's probably because it has been printed from our ppho.org website. That is why you see the links on the left and right columns that may not make much sense to you if you are reading this on paper. However, for a while we will continue to use this format to remind you of all the other features and interactivity you can get by reading this online at our community website. Just a reminder to visit it and use it. After all it's for you!

Quips & Quotes
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.

Your Virtual Community Center Online -
Happy 4th of July!
It's true... we don't have a clubhouse, nor a community center. But we do have a website!! It's our virtual community center online. Sorry to repeat this, but we'd like to remind you to frequently check out the PPHO.org website. It is updated every other month, as well as whenever there is pertinent info. We now have over 28 residents on the PPHO email list. Please don't forget to add yours to the list, if you have not done so. Call 561-0325 if you would like for it to be added right away or send your email address, name and lot # to webmaster@ppho.org. Don't worry if you don't have email...you won't be left out of any formal or required communications, which will continue to be delivered via US Mail. However, we are able to easily and handily communicate with almost half our residents via email and this opens the door to much timelier, more frequent and less costly communications for our community.

Plantation/Palmetto Extension Public Information
IMPORTANT MEETING - June 21, 2002 9AM at City Hall
2200 2nd Street & Hendry, City Council Chamber  - Downtown Ft. Myers, FL

On June 21, 2002 the Metropolitan Planning Organization will be voting on the 20/10 and this extension is on that plan. We will need as many people as possible to attend this meeting to show support AGAINST this project. This project pertains to the lengthening of Plantation Road to extend northward from Idlewild eventually extending all the way to Martin Luther King Blvd. The widening of Plantation Road is also an issue.

Linda Soter, (239-561-0154) who is a resident of Emerald Pines has spearheaded a community coalition. This coaltion has been circulating a petition which shows widespread community support AGAINST this project. The participating communities are The Willows, Highland Pines, Emerald Pines, The Rookery, Brookshire, Oakbrook, Plantation South, Villa South and Plantation Pines. The majority of the residents from these communities participated in signing the petition.

On May 16, 2002 a press release was issued by the Lee County DOT for a meeting that was to be held on May 23, 2002 to familiarize the residents of this community with the proposed plan for the extension. The announcement appeared in the Ft. Myers News-Press on May 20, 2002. Many people feel that this was not adequate notice of this meeting. Some people that attended the meeting did not feel that it was helpful. The company conducting this workshop is a private consulting firm, Cell & Associates. Please find a list of links below with information pertaining to this project.

Attention: All US History Buffs
Mr. Jim Hamann, a Plantation Pines resident, is also a history teacher at Bishop Verot High School. He has a wonderful website that is sure to interest anyone with a penchant for learning more about US history, as well as helping with homework assignments! Report Vandals!
Did you know that we have a page on our website where you can report vandalism, crimes and disturbances? If we are all well informed about such matters, then it gives us more power in protecting ourselves and our community.  So the next time your mailbox takes a hit, your car gets egged or you get conned by a solicitor, you can log it in so that all of your neighbors can be on the lookout. Also, we were told by the Sheriff's department to call in every single time that something happens, so that they can better prevent and solve some of the problems that have been occurring.  So don't forget to check the site! Click here to find out what problems have been occuring in your neighborhood. And don't forget to login yours!

Front Entrance Beautification Part II
Great News - As you have surely noticed the county has widened the entrance to our community. We will also be getting some bids on new signage for our front entrance, as well. We'll keep you posted on this.

Kudos to Residents
A big thank you to Mr. Jim Hamman, who was very instrumental is lobbying to the county for the widening of our entrance.
